PANAJI: According to the police, a crumpled tissue found inside the suitcase containing the lifeless body of her four-year-old son, murdered by data scientist and startup founder Suchana Seth, provides insights into her state of mind and suggests a potential motive for the killing.
The note, inscribed with an eyeliner, states, "Court and my (estranged) husband are pressuring me to give custody of my son, and I cannot take it anymore." It further conveys, "My ex-husband is violent... he used to teach bad manners to (my) son. I don't want to give even a day's custody to the father."
Investigators revealed that Suchana allegedly "sang a lullaby" to her son in an attempt to lull him to sleep before the tragic incident.
"The note we have attached is a critical piece of evidence in the case, shedding light on her mental condition," stated an officer. "The issue of custody of her son must have been lingering in her mind for many days, prompting this drastic step."
The police plan to submit the note for forensic verification of the handwriting.
"She was in contact with her doctor, a parental therapist, before committing the crime. We are scrutinizing call details to determine who she contacted after the boy's death," the officer explained.
Room 404 of Hotel Sol Banyan Grande at Candolim is the alleged crime scene where Suchana purportedly smothered her son to death and attempted suicide by wrist-slitting. Two empty bottles of cough syrup were discovered in the room, indicating a possible attempt to intoxicate her son.
She was apprehended in a taxi leaving Goa, with her child's lifeless body concealed in a suitcase in the car's trunk.
